YOUR ULTIMATE PRE-TAN GUIDE: THE SECRET TO A FLAWLESS, LONG-LASTING GLOW

YOUR ULTIMATE PRE-TAN GUIDE: THE SECRET TO A FLAWLESS, LONG-LASTING GLOW

A flawless tan doesn’t start with your tanning mousse — it starts with your prep. Proper skin preparation is the difference between a streaky, uneven fade and a smooth, radiant glow that lasts. Think of this as your glow foundation.

At COATED, we believe great results come from great rituals. Here’s your complete pre-tan guide to ensure your skin is perfectly prepped and ready to glow.

1. Exfoliate for an Even Canvas

Exfoliation is non-negotiable. Removing dead skin allows your tan to apply evenly and fade naturally — without patchiness.

When to exfoliate:
• 24–48 hours before tanning
• Avoid exfoliating on the same day as your tan

Focus on dry areas:
• Elbows
• Knees
• Ankles
• Hands & feet

Use a gentle exfoliating mitt or scrub and massage in circular motions. Avoid oil-based scrubs, as leftover residue can interfere with your tan developing evenly.

2. Shave or Wax in Advance

Hair removal should always be done at least 24 hours before tanning. This allows pores time to close and prevents dark dots or irritation.

Avoid:
• Shaving immediately before tanning
• Tanning over freshly irritated skin

Smooth skin = smoother glow.

3. Hydrate the Right Way

Hydrated skin holds tan longer — but timing matters.

Apply moisturiser:
• The night before tanning
• Avoid heavy lotions on the day of application

If your skin feels dry just before tanning, apply a light layer of moisturiser only to dry areas (elbows, knees, ankles, wrists). This prevents over-absorption and keeps your tan seamless.

4. Clean, Dry Skin Only

On tanning day, your skin should be completely clean and free from:
• Makeup
• Deodorant
• Perfume
• Body oils
• SPF

These products can create barriers on the skin, causing fading, streaking, or discolouration.

5. Choose Your COATED Shade with Confidence

Your undertone matters just as much as your desired depth.

Green Base – Neutralises redness, perfect for fair to light skin
Violet Base – Cancels yellow tones, ideal for olive and medium skin
Clear Base – Invisible application, no colour transfer

Whether you’re going for a soft glow or a deep bronze, choosing the right base ensures your tan looks natural, never fake.

Pre-Tan Checklist

✔ Hair removed at least 24 hours before
✔ Light moisturiser only on dry areas

Final Tip from COATED

Prepping your skin properly not only improves the look of your tan but also extends it. A well-prepped canvas allows your glow to develop evenly, fade gracefully, and last days longer.

Because when your tan fades beautifully… that’s when you know you’ve done it right.
