You’ve prepped, applied, and revealed your glow — now it’s time to protect it. The way you treat your skin in the 24–72 hours after tanning directly impacts how long your tan lasts and how beautifully it fades.
At COATED, we believe aftercare is just as important as application. Here’s exactly how to maintain that fresh bronze for as long as possible.
1. Your First Rinse Matters
After your recommended development time, your first rinse should be:
• Short
• Lukewarm
• Water-only (no soap for the first rinse)
This allows the bronzer to wash off while your colour continues to develop underneath. The water may appear tinted — this is completely normal.
Avoid:
• Hot showers
• Long soaks
• Scrubbing
These can prematurely strip your tan.
2. Moisturise Daily (This Is Non-Negotiable)
Hydrated skin = long-lasting tan.
Apply a rich, oil-free moisturiser morning and night, starting immediately after your first rinse. Well-hydrated skin prevents cracking, patchiness, and uneven fading.
Pay special attention to:
• Hands
• Feet
• Elbows
• Knees
• Décolletage
Consistency here is what keeps your glow looking smooth and fresh days later.
3. Be Gentle in the Shower
From day two onward, cleanse with:
• Mild, hydrating body washes
• No exfoliating products
• No loofahs or harsh mitts
Rough cleansing will accelerate your fade and cause patchiness. The goal is always clean, calm, nourished skin.
4. Avoid These Tan-Fading Triggers
For the first 48 hours post-tan, avoid:
• Swimming (chlorine + salt = fade)
• Long hot baths
• Saunas & steam rooms
• Intense sweating
If you do sweat, gently pat dry — never rub.
5. Top Up Strategically
If you want to refresh your glow:
• Use tanning drops mixed with moisturiser
• Apply only to areas that fade faster
• Build gradually
This keeps your tan looking even without over-developing certain areas.
